Your brush dances across the paper, filling it with colour and light. It is a delight to see your landscapes through your eyes. Lovely work...I'll visit again. Maureen Shaughnessy <mshaughnessy@rogers.com> Collingwood, Ont Canada - Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at 21:54:53 (CDT) Dear David, I really enjoyed your Antarctica paintings and was very interested to learn how you try to overcome the problems of freezing water etc. What I found is that different colours freeze at different rates-- very strange that the earths or impure mixes freeze first. I´ll try the vodka trick but will let our latest wind/ snow blizzard die down first. Best wishes from a fellow watercolourist in the frozen north! For the first time in my life i couldnt think what I wanted! Now is that weird or what I need a change of Job ! Pauline Pauline English Port Carling, On. - Sunday, January 16, 2005 at 11:01:44 (EST) Barber's Laws of Backpacking 1) The integral of the gravitational potential taken around any loop trail you choose to hike always comes out positive. 2) Any stone in your boot always migrates against the pressure gradient to exactly the point of most pressure. 3) The weight of your pack increases in direct proportion to the amount of food you consume from it. If you run out of food, the pack weight goes on increasing anyway. 4) The number of stones in your boot is directly proportional to the number of hours you have been on the trail. 5) The difficulty of finding any given trail marker is directly proportional to the importance of the consequences of failing to find it. 6) The size of each of the stones in your boot is directly proportional to the number of hours you have been on the trail. 7) The remaining distance to your chosen campsite remains constant as twilight approaches. 8) The net weight of your boots is proportional to the cube of the number of hours you have been on the trail. 9) When you arrive at your chosen campsite, it is full. 10) If you take your boots off, you'll never get them back on again. 11) The local density of mosquitos is inversely proportional to your remaining repellent. http://llinks.pisem.net mama <mama@usa.com> Washington, ws USA - Friday, January 14, 2005 at 12:40:18 (EST) Thanks for sharing your incredible trip. Through learning to see and render as you are teaching, I am moving into states of consciousnes which deeply change me. I have struggled to understand the role of art in human evolution and finally, through your sensitive and conscious understanding of the process, I am beginning to experience the profound role of art in our spiritual journey. Very interesting and yes very zen. The painting is a contemplative piece, observing the water, fish and the process of seeing. The fish are like our thoughts passing through and rising up though this consciousness (water). Are we the fish? Are we the water or reeds reflecting from sky? Are we all of these things when fully seeing and there is no duality? Being connected to all gives birth to compassion. DM Sault Ste. Marie, Canada - Thursday, July 12, 2001 at 23:19:47 (EDT) Hi David, I hope you had a good show at City Hall, despite the poor weather on Saturday. Llillian Lillian USA - Thursday, July 12, 2001 at 16:54:56 (EDT) Dear David, I have had a couple of days now to think about your painting of the koi fish and I have some thoughts and hope other people see this painting and comment on it as well. It makes a wonderful subject for a discussion. This painting is zen. It is two fish swimming slightly separated, but not too far apart, just below the surface of the water under a ripple. It symbolizes to me that there are partnerships which are close, but not stifling. The swimming downward of the fish symbolizes the looking inward, the seeking of truths below the unstable surface that we are familiar with. To seek and learn about oneself and our relationship to our significant other and others. The colors of the painting are gentle, contemplative, smooth and subtle. This may mean mellowness, confidence, and an acceptance of where we are now. This security of self may be a new revelation as we follow the fish into deeper meaning, together and individually. Such a thought-provoking work and very beautiful. This is one interpretation. Are there others out there.
